Where South Laguna starts

South Laguna is the southern end of Laguna Beach, along Coast Highway toward Dana Point. On this site it starts where the city’s Laguna Local ride service starts its South Laguna stops: Coast Highway at Rockledge Road, near Victoria Beach. The stops end at 9th Avenue. The South Laguna neighborhood page covers the area, and every restaurant here has a Coast Highway address in the 30000 or 31000 block, south of Rockledge Road. North end of the stretch

Ruby’s Diner, Starfish and O Fine Japanese Cuisine form the northern group, in the 30600 to 30800 blocks. Ruby’s says it sits off Coast Highway at Laguna Terrace North. Starfish and O Fine both have addresses in the 30800 block, so a pan-Asian menu and a Japanese one are close together.

Aliso Beach

Lost Pier Cafe stands in the 31000 block of Coast Highway, the same block where the Coastal Commission lists Aliso Beach Park. The Commission shows parking, restrooms and a fee there. The Aliso Beach page covers access, parking and rules.

Near Thousand Steps Beach

Neapolitan Pizzeria & Birreria, Coyote Grill and AhbA sit between the 31500 and 31700 blocks. Thousand Steps Beach is on South Coast Highway across from 9th Avenue, and AhbA’s listing places the restaurant close to it. The Thousand Steps page explains the stairway.

A change worth knowing

La Sirena Grill, a Mexican restaurant, once had a South Laguna location. Its website says that location has closed. Its downtown Laguna Beach location on Mermaid Street is open.

Getting there

The free Coastal Route trolley follows Coast Highway through South Laguna to Mission Hospital and on to the Ritz-Carlton in Dana Point. Reading the listings

Each card gives a street address, a short description and a link to the restaurant’s own site or its page on the sister directory. Lost Pier Cafe’s site, for example, splits its menu into breakfast, items from the sea, items from the land, sides, desserts and drinks. The other sites vary in how much they say. Confirm hours and any reservation rules with the restaurant before you go.
