What the HIP District is

HIP stands for Historic and Interesting Places. Visit Laguna Beach describes the district as a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway from Anita Street to Bluebird Canyon, with beaches at the end of every street. It lists galleries, shops and 17 restaurants along the way, and the shopping page covers the stores. This page lists nine places to eat and drink with addresses on that stretch. Each card links the place’s own website or its page on lagunabeachhappyhour.com, a directory the same owner runs.

North of Anita Street the highway belongs to the Village. South of Bluebird Canyon Drive it runs on toward Woods Cove. The page prints no prices, hours or specials, since those change. Check the venue’s site or call before you go.

The 1000 and 1100 blocks

The northern end has the most addresses. Laguna Coffee Company is at 1050, and Gina’s Pizza, Oak and Seabutter all give 1100 as their street address, with suite numbers for the last two. Wahoo’s Fish Tacos is at 1133. Oak’s site says it sits on the second floor of the Village Faire building and lists validated parking in the structure below.

The 1200 and 1300 blocks

Sapphire, Cellar. Craft. Cook. is at 1200, with The Pantry next door for coffee and pastries. The Rooftop Lounge, at 1289, is a bar and restaurant on the top floor of the La Casa del Camino hotel. Avila’s El Ranchito is at 1305, with a patio and an indoor dining room.

The 1400 block

Wild Strawberry Cafe is at 1440 and Sélanne Steak Tavern at 1464, the southernmost address on this page. Sélanne’s own site keeps its bar first come, first served and links a reservation page for the dining rooms.

Beaches at the end of the streets

Cross streets here run toward the water. The Coastal Commission lists stairs at most street ends from Anita Street to Pearl Street, with parking on the street, and this site has pages for Anita Street, Oak Street, Brooks Street and Cress Street. The city is rebuilding the Anita Street stairway. Its project page gives December 2026 as the expected completion date and points beachgoers to the Oak Street and Thalia Street stairs meanwhile, so check the beach pages for access notes before you plan a walk after the meal.

Parking and the trolley

The parking guide explains the city’s meters, lots and permits, and the getting around guide covers the trolley. The free Coastal Route trolley runs along Coast Highway between downtown and South Laguna, so it passes these blocks.

Before or after the meal

The district’s galleries are covered on the art galleries page. For more restaurants along the coast, see the Village page to the north and the South Laguna page to the south.

Reading the listings

Each card gives a street address, a short description and a link to the venue’s own site or its sister-directory page. Menus change, and sites differ in how much they say. Seabutter’s site, for example, names its menu sections but not its dishes. If you plan to eat at a set time, confirm hours and any reservation rules with the venue first.
