Where the coffee comes from
Two places on this page say they roast in Laguna Beach. Laguna Coffee Company says its coffee is roasted in house and sold in bags. Jedidiah Coffee roasts in a roastery on Laguna Canyon Road and runs a separate coffeehouse on North Coast Highway. Endless Quest Roasters has a Laguna Beach cafe, but its own site puts its roaster and tasting lab in Costa Mesa.
Along Coast Highway
North Coast Highway has two of the seven: Jedidiah Coffee at 397 and Endless Quest Roasters at 610. Better Buzz and Equator are in the Village, and Laguna Coffee Company is farther south in the HIP District, all on South Coast Highway. Equator’s cafe sits inside the historic South Coast Theater, which its site says is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Bakeries and baked goods
Rye Goods is the one dedicated bakery on this list: an organic sourdough bakery on Forest Avenue with a deli and a wine shop. Its site says each location has its own menu. Equator lists pastries and bagels, and Zinc Cafe & Market on Ocean Avenue describes house-baked goods next to its coffee and meals.
Beans to take home
Four of these sell beans through their own websites. Laguna Coffee Company’s site lists its Laguna Blend in whole bean or ground. Jedidiah Coffee ships beans from its roastery and offers a subscription. Endless Quest Roasters sells single-origin coffees from several countries, and Better Buzz runs an online shop for its blends. Check each site for what is in stock.
Cafe or roastery
A cafe is where you sit and order a drink. A roastery is where beans are roasted and packed. Jedidiah Coffee keeps the two apart, with the coffeehouse on North Coast Highway and the roastery in the canyon. Laguna Coffee Company says its coffee is roasted in house.
Pairing a cup with a walk
Equator’s site says its cafe is steps from Main Beach Park and convenient to the city’s galleries. Main Beach is the nearest public beach. The art walk page covers the gallery stroll, and the one day in Laguna itinerary strings stops together. For parking and the trolley, see the parking guide and the getting around guide.
A note on hours
Each cafe sets its own schedule and can change it. Check the venue’s site or call before you go, and use the breakfast and brunch page if you want a sit-down meal.
