What oceanfront means here
The word oceanfront covers two different settings in Laguna Beach. Some properties stand on the sand, so the walk to the water is a few steps. Others stand on a bluff or a clifftop, with the Pacific below and a path or stairs down to the beach.
The six properties on this page all use that kind of language on their own sites. Smaller hotels with ocean views from some rooms are on the inns and boutique hotels page.
On the sand
Laguna Surf Lodge and Capri Laguna are the two that say they sit on the beach itself. Laguna Surf Lodge is on South Coast Highway in the Village, and its site mentions the Thalia Street surf break nearby. Capri Laguna is in the HIP District, and its site lists beachfront and oceanfront room types. Surf & Sand Resort, a little farther south on the same highway, describes about 500 feet of shoreline.
The sand in front of these hotels follows the city’s beach rules on dogs, alcohol, fires and closing hours. Read the beach rules page and the Main Beach page before you plan around a particular stretch of sand.
Above the beach
Casa Loma Beach Hotel stands on a clifftop on North Coast Highway, and its site says Main Beach is a few steps away. La Casa del Camino, in the HIP District, has a Rooftop Lounge with a Pacific view, and its site puts Cress Street Beach steps away.
Montage Laguna Beach is the farthest of the six from downtown, in South Laguna. Its site places it on a coastal bluff, a four-minute walk from Treasure Island Beach.
Getting around without a car
Casa Loma’s own site says guests can walk to the village’s shops, galleries and restaurants without a car. Montage lists valet as its only on-site parking. Read the getting around guide for routes and the parking guide for how parking works in town before you decide whether to bring a car.
What to do from an oceanfront hotel
The coast is the plan. Sunset spots lists public places to watch the light go, and Heisler Park is the bluff-top park on Cliff Drive in North Laguna. For a meal with a view, oceanfront restaurants covers places that state an ocean view on their own sites. Montage lists three restaurants and bars of its own, Surf & Sand’s site lists the Splashes restaurant and the Bella Vista Terrace lounge, and La Casa del Camino’s lists the Rooftop Lounge.
Book directly
Every card links to the property’s own website, and this page carries no booking links and no paid placement. Check each site for rates, resort fees, minimum stays and policies, because they change. Hotels that allow dogs are collected on the dog-friendly hotels page, and the full-service properties with spas are on the resorts page.
