Dog-friendly patios in Laguna Beach

Two Laguna Beach restaurants call themselves dog-friendly on their own websites, and a third says yes to dogs in an FAQ that covers the whole company. Each policy is quoted as the restaurant words it, because the wording differs and only one ties dogs to a patio.

How this page reads policies

A restaurant’s website can say “dog-friendly” on its home page, a private events page or an FAQ. Each means something slightly different, so the cards on this page repeat the wording and the page where it appears. If a site did not state a policy, the restaurant is not listed here, even when it has a patio, so call any place you do not see on this page.

What the three sites say

Mozambique is the only one of the three that ties dogs to a patio. Its home page describes the Garden Patio, with coastal greenery and a fire pit, as “dog-friendly, and open when weather allows.” The private events page lists the same patio for smaller celebrations, group dinners and “pet-friendly gatherings,” and describes it as open-air, with canopies and seating for 50. The restaurant is at 1740 S Coast Hwy, in Woods Cove, and the site describes South African-inspired cooking with wood-fired steaks.

Q Terrace, at 680 S Coast Hwy, says on its private events page that the restaurant “is dog-friendly! Bring your furry friend and enjoy the atmosphere of our restaurant.” The sentence sits in a list of the restaurant’s advantages. It does not say which areas dogs may use, so ask whether you can sit outside.

Truly Pizza answers the question in an FAQ that covers the whole company, which also runs a pizzeria in Dana Point: “Do you allow dogs? Yes! We are very dog friendly.” The FAQ names no location. The Laguna Beach page, for the pizzeria on North Coast Highway, describes an open-air room with patio seating for about 100 guests and does not mention dogs, so confirm with the Laguna Beach restaurant before you bring one.

Rules that apply anywhere in town

The city’s dog rules say dogs must be on a leash at all times in Laguna Beach, with the city’s dog parks as the exception. From June 15 to September 10, the city allows dogs on the beach only before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m. The dog-friendly places page covers beaches, the off-leash Dog Park in Laguna Canyon and the trails that bar dogs. A tasting room may say no: Bianchi’s site says only service dogs are allowed, and it has no outdoor seating. The wine and beer page lists the rest.

Parking and the trolley

All three restaurants sit on Coast Highway. The parking guide lists the city lots and the getting around guide covers the free trolley on Coast Highway.

Where to stay with a dog

If you are traveling with a dog, the dog-friendly hotels page lists Laguna Beach properties whose own pet policies allow dogs. Each card states the policy as the property words it, including weight limits and how many dogs a room takes.
