What the guide lists today

On October 28, 2026, the MICHELIN Guide’s California pages for Laguna Beach and its surroundings listed 15 restaurants. Three of them are in Laguna Beach. The rest are in neighboring Orange County cities such as Newport Beach and Costa Mesa. The three Laguna Beach entries are R|O-Rebel Omakase, Oliver’s Osteria and Selanne Steak Tavern. This page repeats what the guide’s own pages state and nothing more, and it will go out of date when the guide updates.

One Star: R|O-Rebel Omakase

The guide’s page gives R|O-Rebel Omakase one Star. The restaurant is at 361 Forest Avenue, Suite 103, in a small shopping center in the Village. The guide says the chef oversees two seatings a night at the counter, by reservation only. The restaurant’s own site calls its omakase a set menu based on raw fish and shellfish, with fish, rice and ingredients from Japan. Because seating is limited, the sushi and Japanese page is the place to look if you want other options.

Selected: Oliver’s Osteria and Selanne Steak Tavern

Both are listed without a Star or Bib Gourmand. Oliver’s Osteria is an Italian restaurant at 853 Laguna Canyon Road, near the Laguna College of Art + Design according to the guide. Its guide page reads “Note: Temporarily closed” as of October 28, 2026. The restaurant’s own site still lists menus and chef’s table dates in January. Call before you go.

Selanne Steak Tavern is a steakhouse at 1464 S Coast Hwy, in the HIP District stretch of Coast Highway. The guide describes a historic house with several settings: an upstairs loft, a wine library, the tavern, a veranda and the Sunset Terrace. See restaurants in the HIP District and fine dining for neighbors.

What the distinctions mean

The guide says its Stars go to cooking, judged on five criteria: quality of ingredients, harmony of flavors, mastery of technique, the chef’s personality and consistency across the menu and over time. One Star marks cooking worth a stop. A Bib Gourmand marks good quality, good value cooking. A Selected restaurant is one the guide includes that has not reached a Star or Bib Gourmand, and the guide says such restaurants are sometimes promoted later. Stars are reassessed every year.

Listings just outside town

The other twelve entries on the guide’s Laguna Beach list are in nearby cities. They include Marché Moderne and Bello by Sandro Nardone in Newport Beach, Knife Pleat and Hana re in Costa Mesa, and Heritage Barbecue in San Juan Capistrano. They are not Laguna Beach restaurants, so they are not listed on this page, but they show how the guide groups the coast: a search for Laguna Beach returns the surrounding area, and each restaurant’s own guide page names its city.

How to check a listing yourself

Open the restaurant’s page on guide.michelin.com. The page shows the address, the cuisine and the guide’s short description, along with any note about a temporary closure. On the guide’s Laguna Beach list, a Star or a Bib Gourmand shows as a symbol beside the name, and Selected restaurants carry no symbol. Compare it with the restaurant’s own site, since a guide page can lag a closure or a change in hours. Stars and Selected listings are updated by the guide, not by the restaurants or by this site.

Planning a visit

Reservations come first at any of the three. Hours, menus and closures change, so use the restaurant’s site and the guide’s page together. Parking in the Village and on Coast Highway is covered in the parking guide, and the trolley is on the getting around page. A gallery walk fits before dinner; the art walk page covers it.
