Weather in June
For June, NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals at the Laguna Beach station list an average high of 76°F and an average low of 58°F. The afternoon figure is 1.5 degrees above May’s, and the night figure is more than three degrees warmer.
The rain is nearly gone. The normal June total is 0.11 inch, and the station averages 0.5 days with 0.10 inch or more. NOAA says people in Southern California call the early-summer marine layer May Gray or June Gloom, and that the layer can persist for days or weeks along the coast. Cloud cover is not part of the normals above, so a month with almost no rain can still be gray.
Sunset reaches its latest time of the year this month. The U.S. Naval Observatory puts sunset at 7:56 p.m. on June 1, 2027, and at 8:05 p.m. from June 22 through June 30, in Pacific Daylight Time.
The ocean in June
As a guide to the water, NOAA’s San Pedro South buoy (station 46253) averaged about 66°F in June over 2015 to 2025. The buoy sits offshore, about 23 miles west of Laguna Beach, so its readings show the season and not the temperature at any one beach. The typical figure is 10 degrees below the average afternoon high on land.
The city allows surfing at Agate, Brooks, Rockpile and Thalia Street beaches, and says not every beach has a lifeguard at all times. See the surfing guide for beach-by-beach rules and the ocean safety guide for Marine Safety’s advice.
What’s on in June
- Fête de la Musique. Laguna Beach Sister Cities presents this free celebration each June, timed to World Music Day. The 2027 date is Saturday, June 19, from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with an opening ceremony at 1 p.m. at Main Beach.
- Art festivals open. Laguna Art-A-Fair lists June 25 to September 5, 2027, at 777 Laguna Canyon Road. The Festival of Arts Fine Art Show runs June 28 to August 27, 2027, with more than 100 juried Orange County artists, and the Pageant of the Masters starts June 30 with the 2027 theme “Celebrations: The Joy of Art.” The Sawdust Art Festival also holds a summer festival; check its site for the dates. The events guide covers all three festivals.
- First Thursdays Art Walk. The walk is held on the first Thursday of every month, from 6 to 9 p.m. The Art Walk page has the details.
Laguna Beach in May covers the Sunset Serenades concerts before this month, and Laguna Beach in July covers the summer calendar after it.
Crowds and getting around
June is when the city’s summer dog hours start. From June 15 through September 10, which the city calls its busy summer season, leashed dogs are allowed on the beach only before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m. In fall, winter and spring, leashed dogs may be on the beach at any time of day. The city also says it opens large parking lots in different parts of town in summer, and it notes three-hour metered parking in some areas and very limited neighborhood parking in others.
The off-season trolley schedule ends June 25, 2027. The Summer Breeze park-and-ride, a free loop from 16355 Laguna Canyon Road in Irvine, runs on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in June under the city’s current schedule: early service through June 25, then 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. from June 26 to July 1, before adding Thursdays from July 2. It stops at the art festivals and downtown. Details are in the getting around guide, and the parking guide lists lots and permits.
