Weather in November

NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals for the Laguna Beach station list a November average high of 72°F and an average low of 49°F. Mornings and nights run about 23 degrees below the afternoon figure.

Rain picks up. The normal is 1.13 inches, and the station averages 1.4 days with 0.10 inch or more, up from 0.49 inch in October. Normals are 30-year averages, so a given November may bring a single storm or none.

Clocks go back on November 1 in 2026. The U.S. Naval Observatory puts that day’s sunset at 4:59 p.m. in Pacific Standard Time, falling to 4:43 p.m. by the last days of the month. The sunset spots page covers lookouts. OC Parks’ Aliso and Wood Canyons closes at sunset, which now comes before 5 p.m.

The ocean in November

NOAA’s San Pedro South buoy (station 46253) averages about 64°F for November across 2015–2025. That is four degrees below October. The buoy is offshore in 66 meters of water about 23 miles west of Laguna Beach, so it is a guide to the season and not a reading at your beach.

The city’s beach advice does not change with the season: swim near a lifeguard, since not every beach has one at all times, and keep clear of the rocks, where it says unpredictable waves cause injuries. Dogs are easier in fall. The city allows leashed dogs on its beaches at any time of day from fall through spring. See the ocean safety guide for flags and rip currents.

What’s on in November

  • Sawdust Winter Fantasy. The holiday art festival opens on November 20 in 2026 and runs five three-day weekends through December 20, Friday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. It takes place at 935 Laguna Canyon Road, and pets are not allowed on the grounds.
  • First Thursdays Art Walk. Galleries open to the public on the first Thursday of the month. See the Art Walk page and the art galleries list.

December brings Hospitality Night and the end of Winter Fantasy; see Laguna Beach in December. The events guide lists the year by season.

Crowds and getting around

For Winter Fantasy, Sawdust publishes its own parking and trolley notes. Lot 16 at 1900 Laguna Canyon Road costs $5 a day, and a limited number of meters sit on Frontage Road and Laguna Canyon Road. A free trolley runs from Lot 16 between downtown and the festival from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. while the show is open, Friday to Sunday.

The rest of town follows the city’s non-summer trolley schedule. The Coastal Route is free along Coast Highway every 20 to 30 minutes, and on weekends the Canyon Route lets you park at Lot 16 for $5 and ride downtown. Lot 16 is closed to the public Monday to Friday.

See the parking guide and the getting around guide for lots, meters and routes.

What to pack

  • A jacket for the evening. Lows average 49°F, and the sun sets before 5 p.m.
  • A compact umbrella or shell. A normal November has about one and a half rainy days.
  • Shoes with grip for the trails. OC Parks says trails in Aliso and Wood Canyons can close for three days or more after rain.
  • Daytime layers. Afternoons average 72°F, about 23 degrees above the overnight low.
  • A credit card for the meters. Sawdust says the meters in front of the festival take credit cards only.
