Labor Day 2027

Labor Day falls on Monday, September 6, 2027, the first Monday in September. In 2026 it lined up with the end of the city’s summer trolley season. This page covers the seasons the city set for 2026, the holiday tables, the festival closings and the beach rules. The Memorial Day page covers the start of the season.

How the summer seasons ended in 2026

The city posts parking and trolley seasons by date, and in 2026 they turned over around the holiday. Labor Day 2026 was September 7.

  • Trolleys. The city’s trolley page listed the summer season as June 26 to September 7, 2026, ending on Labor Day itself. The off-season schedule began September 8, 2026. In summer the Coastal Route ran from 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and the Canyon Route from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., seven days a week.
  • Summer Breeze. The free park-and-ride from Irvine lists service through September 6, which fell on a Sunday in 2026. Its page shows Thursday to Sunday service and no Monday service, and it prints no year.
  • Parking. The city’s parking page listed the off-season as beginning September 8, 2026. A May 2026 capture of the same page shows the previous off-season began September 2, 2025, the day after Labor Day that year.
  • Parking permits. The city’s Shopper, Residential and School District permits work in Lots 10 and 11 only from the day after Labor Day to late June. The summer festival parking permit for festival workers and volunteers ran June 26 to September 7, 2026.

The city had not posted 2027 summer dates as of October 28, 2026. Its pages show only the off-season through June 2027, so this page gives no 2027 end date for either season. The parking guide and getting around guide explain lots, permits and routes.

Holiday schedules

Trash and recycling. The city’s holiday table lists no pickup on Labor Day and a one-day delay for the rest of that week, with no residential street sweeping. The table prints no year, so read the city’s holiday schedule before the weekend. The trash and recycling guide covers the carts.

Trolley and Laguna Local. The city’s transit holiday table lists 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Labor Day for both the trolley and Laguna Local, “subject to summer hours”. The table prints no year and says hours are subject to change. Because the city had not posted a 2027 summer schedule, confirm on the city’s trolley page, which links the holiday schedule.

City Hall. The city’s 2026 calendar marks Labor Day (September 7, 2026) as a holiday. The city had not posted a 2027 calendar as of October 2026. City Hall’s usual hours are Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., so call (949) 497-3311 before you go.

The summer festivals wind down

The festivals close on their own schedules, and most finish before the holiday.

  • Laguna Art-A-Fair lists its 2027 show as June 25 to September 5, closing on the Sunday before Labor Day. See the Art-A-Fair page.
  • Festival of Arts lists its 2027 Festival Art Show as June 28 to August 27 and the Pageant of the Masters as June 30 to August 28.
  • Sawdust Art Festival had not posted 2027 summer dates. It describes its summer show as running all summer, seven days a week. See the Sawdust page.

The summer art festivals page compares all three. The Chamber of Commerce calendar lists no events from September 3 to 6, 2027. It does list First Thursdays Art Walk on September 2, the Thursday before the holiday. The Art Walk’s organizer holds it on the first Thursday of every month; see the Art Walk page.

At the beach

Labor Day 2027 falls inside the city’s summer dog season, June 15 to September 10. Leashed dogs are allowed on city beaches only before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m. until that season ends, and at any time of day after September 10. Dogs are never allowed at Thousand Steps Beach. The city also prohibits alcohol on beaches, even for adults 21 and older, smoking and fires. The beach rules guide lists the rest.

Two city permit rules follow the same calendar. Beach weddings are limited to four beaches below the Heisler Park bluffs through Labor Day weekend. Between Labor Day weekend and Memorial Day weekend, the city permits weddings at most of its parks and beaches. Commercial film permits are not issued from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The beach weddings guide and the filming and photography guide have the details.

After the weekend

The city’s current off-season trolley schedule, September 8, 2026 to June 25, 2027, runs the Canyon Route from Lot 16 on Saturdays and Sundays only, and Lot 16 is closed to the public Monday to Friday. The city had not posted the schedule for after Labor Day 2027. The September guide covers weather, daylight and the ocean.
